History of this strange dial :

"Made for a short period in the 1960s (most seem to have been made in 1966), these Submariners 5512 -5513were the last to feature gilt (gold) printing and they had a very distinctive coronet on the dial.

The points of the coronet were relatively flat and stubby, not unlike Bart Simpson’s hair. While some may say the Bart coronet is a far cry from what some may call a more regal coronet found on the previous gilt Subs, we think this coronet makes these Bart Subs have much more character than other Subs.

here are a number of things I particularly like about Bart Simpson Submariners. First, they are reference 5513, which we have told you before is THE Rolex reference to own.

Second, I like the printing style on these watches, including the close spacing in the word ROLEX as well as the fact that the crosses on the 't' and the 'f' are in line. Like all gilt Submariners, these watches were "meters first," displaying the depth capability in meters (200m) before the equivalent depth in feet (660ft).

These watches also were among the very last Subs made with gilt dials and during this transitional period most of them came with steel hands. It is important to also note that the gilt writing on Rolex dials was in fact done first then a lacquer coating was placed on top of the dial.

These Bart Subs seem particularly prone to "crazing" a funky aging of the lacquer, but which can give a great natural vintage look to a watch" ( cf / thanks to Eric favorties)

As mentionned, this dial has a short life and now very wanted from collectors. Higly collectibles in Rolex vintage market, this one is slighty cracked, glossy reflect with water damages ( as shown in pics )

"Bart Simpson "Coronet is gilt and index are good.

For collectors who want an atypic watch with a terrific look, this dial will be perfect !
